Phlebotomy (blood tests) – Harborne Medical

A doctor’s request is needed for each test, so please do not book a blood test appointment until you have spoken to a doctor. The test cannot be taken by the phlebotomist unless the proper forms have been completed by the doctor.

You MUST have a request form from a doctor before you book your test.

Fasting Blood Tests

If you have been asked to do a fasting blood test please follow these instructions:

Do not eat or drink anything except plain water for 10 hours prior to your test.
Try to avoid chewing gum, smoking, and exercising if possible
You should continue taking your regular medication unless asked not to

City Hospital

Monday – Friday 8am-5pm (closed on Bank Holidays)

You will need to book an appointment by phoning 0121 507 6104 (between 8am-4.30pm Monday to Friday) or email sandwell.phlebotomy@nhs.net

Please include your name, date of birth, contact number, NHS Number and the date you require your blood test and they will respond to your email within 24 hours during working days.
